Arif Faizi

Community hour + connected

Well I'm the Radio jockey for the community hour on Fiesta FM and my name is Arif Faizi. I started working for Fiesta as I wanted to talk about topics within the South of Hampshire and engage with individuals who can express their subject of interest. It's been fascinating, enlightening and educational as well as helping us all understand that a huge amount of work is being done by captivating individuals within our community. Lets share the knowledge and grow within ourselves by listening to the community hour on Fiesta fm.

CHRIS NOON

The Club Mix

My DJ career started in 1985 when turntables and records were the laptops and mp3s of the day. My first appearances were for the members of the Woolston and Sholing Conservative Club for whom I would play strict tempo, easy listening and maybe the occasional Elvis Presley song. Despite there being no social media, word soon got around that this young upstart had the potential to become a decent function DJ andmy reputation quickly developed with more and more bookings arriving via ‘word of mouth’.

In terms of radio, I began broadcasting in 1989 when I joined Southampton Hospital Broadcasting Association, progressing to the dizzy heights of presenter, technical operator and transmission controller. I have since gone on to do a degree in Broadcasting Studies and have worked for numerous radio stations including Wave 105. Nowadays, my ‘day job’ is running Chris Noon Entertainments – a booking agency for wedding and event entertainment – although my passion is (and always has been) radio!

The Fiesta Sunday Breakfast Show

Craig has always had a love of music but hasn't ever found an instrument of his own to play. That was until he started volunteering in radio and realised his passion for the radio and great morning tunes. He has lived in Hedge End, Southampton for over 10 years now and is very happy to call it his home.

In his spare time he likes to collect vinyl records, kickbox, cook and ride his bike. Well... that's when his two young children let him of course.

On Sunday mornings you can join him from 8 - 10. It's a fun show full of upbeat tunes from the 80s to now, silly facts, jokes and everything you need to bring your Sunday up a notch.

DIAMOND DEANO

Deano's Diamonds

Dean has been a soul man since the age of 12, thanks to his mum’s enviable vinyl album collection of American soul and Motown in the family’s old radiogram.

His DJ career started in the early eighties when he was spinning soul funk singles on a twin deck FAL DJ suitcase with no cross fader. The days of smoke machines, glitter balls, lip gloss (not his) and big hair (also not his!). These days he DJs at private parties and live events.

Being a Mod since the late seventies, he was influenced by the vibrant music scene of mod beat, Northern Soul, SKA, reggae, R&B, Motown, jazz and latin. Dean has owned many ‘scooters since the age of 14 and still rides a classic Lambretta today (without stabilisers!). An aircraft engineer since 1978, Dean worked all over the world as a contractor for 22 years before re-training as a construction planner in 2010. He also worked on the Thrust SSC jet car build team which still holds the land speed record since 1997.

Chart Show top 20, Reggae roots & The Velocity Wessex League Football Show

In 1962 aged 6 I lived in a cafe so music has revolved all around my years. So I was always recording The Chart Show on yes, a CASSETTE PLAYER. My life passion has always been Music and Sport and ironically it was through sport that brought me to community radio. I was invited on to Awaaz FM for a sport show to talk about what I thought was going to be about my role as Sholing FC Secretary. I explained to Ali (station manager) I didn't feel that was a sport show so 4 weeks later 8 years ago in 2016 I was hosting Behind the Mic a new sports show for Awaaz FM, then I stood in for a couple of Drive Time Shows which led to me do 3 regularly weekly slots Mon, Weds & Fri. In 2018 I also joined Voice FM to co host the Wessex league football show and also a reggae show called Orange Street.

By now I was also presenting shows regularly on Fiesta FM decades of pop, it's a kinda latin as well as reggae roots. 2 years ago I was asked to assist Felix CEO of Fiesta FM and took on the role of a  Director and Station Manager where we then had 6 presenters/volunteers we have now grown Fiesta FM to operate with 32 volunteers in various guises, where we now have an incredible team to work with.

hidden treasures

The Hidden Treasures Show is a unique mix of music from the UK and around the world, featuring known and unknown artists. There are many great performers who sing fantastic songs in English, but are rarely heard in the UK. The show aims to broaden our knowledge of these artists. Keith started with radio in the late 1960’s, and the rumours he was broadcasting in the midlands, around the time of Radio Caroline, are not true.

He has always had an interest in music and has performed as both a solo artist, and a member of several bands across the decades. Many Friday nights were spent with a guest singer / guitarist who turned out to be Ralph McTell!  More recently, Keith sings and plays keyboard, either on his own or with a guitarist as part of the duo Moonlight.

Keith has also been a radio amateur since the early 1980’s and built and operated communications equipment. Most days of the week, he is talking to someone around the world.

He is also a keen photographer and videographer and has travelled extensively to places such as Hawaii, Australia, and Mexico.

The Night with Mark L

That's it, you've done it. You've finished another week, and now it’s the final hour before you go to sleep and do it all over again. The Night with Mark L is the last show of the week here on FiestaFM, giving you a chance to sit back and enjoy an hour of music, all centred around a set theme. Whether it’s an hour of songs you might have played on a brand-new Walkman on Christmas morning in 1983 or the kind of music you’d tell a friend, 'It’s okay if you haven’t heard of them,' it’s all here 11 till midnight every Sunday.

Welshman and former rapper and spoken word artist Mark L moved to Southampton in 2012 and fell in love with the city he now calls home. When asked, 'What music do you like?' Mark always replies, 'Everything,' a sentiment born from a lifelong love of music. So when the opportunity came to give back to the community he loves, he jumped at the chance and joined FiestaFM.

70's 80's 90's Floor Fillers

My love of music started at a very young age, with my first record player and album. When I got into my early teens, I learnt and played the drums until the late 70s. When I started to help a friend with DJing, I was hooked. The drums got sold and disco equipment was bought, and I have never looked back.

In the mid 80s I joined Southampton hospital radio at the same time as a very young presenter call Scott Mills. Unfortunately, I had to give up the radio owing to work commitments.

Over the years I've worked in a lot of top venues along with an array of celebrities, and I still have a great passion for what I do.  I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to join Fiesta 95 FM, doing my own show every Tuesday.

Friday Night Rockshow!

Hello,

I started out DJing in a local youth club many years ago then as time moved on so did I.

I then moved onto mobile DJing around the local area which included pubs clubs and private functions then I changed to radio, as a volunteer at radio lollipop which is a charity based Children's radio station at Southampton general hospital which was a lot of fun!

I then progressed on to Southampton hospital radio doing a request program aimed at children in hospital I learnt a lot from doing that.

I started seriously buying music in around 1970 which would mainly be Soul & Reggae! Then Jazz Funk came along which eventually got me into my love of jazz!

I held my first DJ gig at the 5th year unit at school and have been regularly playing at events in and around the Southampton and surrounding areas ever since!

First got into radio in the late 90's with  short stints on Radio Victory (producing and compiling shows) and co presenting on Vibe FM! Been presenting a regular soul show on an Internet station since 2013 and also loads of jazz shows!

The Fiesta Saturday Shindig

With a lifelong interest in comedy I mix a very varied playlist of cracking music with regular comedy clips. I have features such as The Bad Boy B side, tracks from a parent performer and their son or daughter in The Parent and Child Reunion. I have 3 ballads back to back with no talking in The Mellow Minutes as well.  Every week we also have 3 songs from a chosen Rock Legend.

My mate Paul Thorne sits in with me as well so we tend to crack a few gags between us. So tune in 11am every Saturday for 2 hours of great comedy and music. As Del Boy would say “You know it makes sense”
