Dr Patricia Worby (PhD*), is a psychotherapist, educator and author who loves music.
She bought her first record at 5** with her pocket money and her first album at 8*** developing a passion for innovative bands of the indie/alternative scene of the 80s. Whilst at University she set up a mobile disco to cater to the emerging underground gay scene, and the passion for DJing was ignited running a number of regular club nights and events around Southampton as Euphoria Disco.
During her 30s (1990s) she got into clubbing (a bit late!) and enjoyed the burgeoning house music and trance scenes – dancing to this kind of music made her feel alive and connected, in ways that she only now understands. She then began to avidly collect dance music CDs and has a huge collection which she uses to inform her radio playlist (now all digital of course).
A chance encounter with Roy (of Royzee’s Pick n Mix show) introduced her to Fiesta FM and she proposed a show which combined 90s music and natural health – the Nineties Nurture Hour was born.
After her experience of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME) and finding that conventional medicine had very little to offer, she retrained as a therapist specializing in nervous system rebalancing and trauma release. She is now a passionate advocate of natural health and healing, the author of 6 books on natural medicine and psychology.
The show combines great dance music from late 80s/90s/early 2000s and short segments about how to keep yourself healthy naturally with nutrition, bodywork, somatic release and nervous system regulation. The body is a system of amazing complexity, and her aim is to distill this into understanding for people helping them to live better, healthier, longer lives. There are different themes each week and occasional guest slots where she interviews other mindbody practitioners to open up the conversation about all the things you can do to heal yourself.
She can be found at alchemytherapies.co.uk (therapy, courses and group programmes) and patriciaworby.com (books and education).
